🤔 How and why create a website or blog?

Brainstorming on how and why creating a personal website or a blog in 2021 is as essential as building your resume.

I am an Indian middle-class guy where my mom and dad took care of my financial needs. Now, aged 24 (as of 2021) who can manage my own expenses and am now more financially stable that I can take care of my day-to-day needs.

Well, I was passionate about creating my own personal brand, and I strongly perceive that creating a personal website or blog can aid in creating a brand image for oneself.

How to create one for yourself?

Hitting the nail, you basically need just two things - a domain and a platform. Most of web development services provide a platform for hosting and website building.

To name a few - Wix, Squarespace, Ghost. They also provide free domain and hosting services but with ads and you can't get your own domain. You can get those at a premium subscription at a very reasonable rate.

Come on, we spend a huge disposable income on shopping, alcohol, and movies. And why not on a website that creates a personal brand for you?

Don’t overthink - The platform doesn’t matter. Your site and decent content matter.

I prefer and chose Wix (wix.com) because I have worked on a couple of projects on Wix before when I was a freelance web designer. Moreover, I got a domain (kishorekart.com) at a dirt-cheap price because it was a black Friday sale (₹1100 INR with domain hosting solution and website building). Without the sale, it would take around ₹2400 INR (not sure).

💡Pro Tip - If you are a student you can get .me domain for free at Namecheap. However they are not pro-looking domains like the .com domains but for a personal blog, its actually very reasonable.

Why create a personal blog/website?

Trust me, in the near future, every tom, dick, and harry is gonna own a YouTube channel where everyone is gonna vlog, rant and talk random shit or at least own a personal blog for themselves.

WHY? - Because Content creation is gonna be the King. And if you are gonna not jump in this race, you might miss the bus.

David Perell talks about maximizing the Serendipity Vehicle in his blog - where he rants about why writing is important and the value of a website - that’s like even while you are sleeping your thoughts and ideas are sitting on the internet. It's like those tiny internet robots are working for you like pigeons, as a carrier of thoughts delivering your ideas to other like-minded people.

Bringing traffic to a personal blog is difficult and SEO has nothing to do with a personal blog. Write stuff and post it on any social media and if it resonates with any other like-minded people it will definitely gain traction. It is as simple as that!

And it is piss-easy to create a website nowadays. The only thing you need is a creative and funky mind.
