Revealing reasons why I had to switch to a MacBook Air and do I regret it?

My work desk in India
I have been a hardcore user of Windows since my childhood and I used a windows desktop for around 10 years and a windows laptop for ~5 years so that roughly translates to 15 years in the windows world.
Unfortunately, recently I had to switch to a new laptop because I dropped a bottle of water on my windows laptop while I was binge-watching Friends during my lunch. The water flowed like a river over my entire keyboard and a few of the keys were not working. I tried to repair it, but the technician guy told me it would take around two weeks to get the spare parts and two weeks without a lap is like throwing me into a reserved forest area. So I decided to buy a new lap and take a backup of all the files and repair this old one so that my sissy can use it.
That’s when I started surfing and making my research into which one should I buy so that there is international community support so that I can service them whenever and wherever I wished to. I went through Chromebook, Dell, HP, Lenovo - all the key players in the laptop segment. But astonishingly all the suggestions and reviews on YouTube that I went over had one suggestion in common - that was Macbook Air for students.
I knew that Apple products were premium and were super costly but they are totally worth it and a good investment. I am too aware of their ecosystem - all products in sync. But I was very conscious that I should not get into that ecosystem. And being a hardcore user of Windows I knew that it is gonna be a herculean task to switch to the macOS (if you guys know what I mean). Their controls are so different from windows and you can’t use pirated software because of their strong architecture layer in the privacy and protection, so thick layer of protection that you don’t even need anti-virus for the Mac products.
With all these running in my mind (including my budget), I decided to buy the Dell 5410 top-end model at 70k INR. But again one question popped in mind, what if there is no proper international customer support for Dell. Of course, I accept the fact Dell is an international product and you have awesome support centres but they are not good as Apple.
So I took my Notion app and started typing what are the pros and cons of buying a Mac and a Windows laptop. It took me around 45 mins to analyse. I usually jot down things when stuff becomes extremely too difficult to make a decision. When I finished, I was able to witness that Mac had so many pros than windows and it was tailor-made to meet my needs because I am not a pro gamer and I need a lap just for my professional needs mainly student purposes.
Okay, I was totally puzzled now. I took another page on Notion and started to write what are things that are stopping me from buying myself a MacBook.
Number 1 was Cost - But apple is so great that they provide a 10% discount for students and the final deal price came to around 82k bucks. I compared that with Windows. The Mac was just 12% costlier but the productivity that I would get from Mac was eating up this comparison.
Number 2 was shifting to MacOS. Like I said before, I have been using Windows for a long time and switching to Mac would take me days or even months to get used to it. Also on Windows, I know all kinds of shortcuts and hacks to get the pirated software on board. But that’s when realised, what if the company that I am gonna work for in future uses only Mac products? That’s when it hit me hard. If I am gonna stick with Windows alone, I would not know the delicacy of how a Mac works.
So finally, I spoke to a number of people in my circle and all of them said one constant point -
“If you got used to a Mac, you won’t even return to windows”
Finally, I took my all courage and bought it at the Imagine showroom. It’s been a month since I am using the macOS. And oh OMG, the UI and UX are so clean and the processing is so smooth without any lag and viewing movies and series on this gorgeous retina screen never strains my eyes. And this M1 chip on the Macbook. Oh là là! How can I explain the M1 chip performance? You seriously need to feel this premium product once. Yes, it was difficult to get used to the MacOS but it was not as difficult that I thought would be. Furthermore, the laptop is so weightless that it really feels like I am carrying a notebook and working with the laptop on my lap doesn’t even feel fatigued with no heat dissipation.

To add a cherry on the cake - 18 hours of battery backup. What else one would need on a laptop to make it even more perfect? 😃
