Articulating why travelling is essential at a younger age and sharing my scuba diving experience.

šŸ‘¦šŸ» All young should do...

2022 is not my favourite year but still, I have made the most trips this year. 12 months 12 trips. šŸ˜Ž

Of course, I am not a true wanderer but I can take pride in saying I am an occasional nomad. Travelling is the one thing that keeps me alive and excited as always; one thing that I never get burned out doing. So, I thought I could share some insights into what travelling can do to one.

Travelling makes you more socialised - it forces you to be social. You need to know how to get directions. You will need to learn where things are. The climate, the weather for the day. How are you gonna survive? Where are you gonna eat? Where are you gonna stay? Making choices about places to visit. All these require a pro level of planning and decision-making skills. Once you travel a lot, you will inhibit all these skills subconsciously.

I love to be in this mood of ā€œWhere am I nowā€ all time. Not being afraid of where you are. And I am totally against travelling to or exploring places in a single day (i.e one-day trips) cause I feel that one can’t get the essence of a city in just a single day. You need to be there at least for 2 days. So whenever I make trips I make sure that I stay there for a while.

Allow yourself to get lost so you can find yourself.

šŸš… What does Traveling do to you?

Travelling helps you to figure out what you wanted to do. I would suggest that when your kids are grown and when they finish high school, allow them to take a break. Put some money in their bank accounts and ask them to go on a solo trip and explore the city with the limited budget that you have deposited. This will make them strong decision-makers in terms of personal finance, self-managing etc. And before college is the right time to make a solo trip. Why? Because travelling teaches you where you are strong and where you are weak. It makes you understand who you really are, and this helps to choose the right course for you in your college/university.

- A 3rd century Traveler

In life, if you don’t try something out, you will never know what you are missing out on.

I remember making my first solo trip to Pondichery from Chennai even though it was a short 2-day trip. Read more about that here.

🤿 My favourite travel experience

So when I left my job in Jan 2022, I had this notion of emptying my bucket list before I make my next big decision in my life. I badly needed a break in my life. So while I was on my 1st solo trip to Pondichery, I wanted to do something crazier that could last forever in my life. And hell yeah, I jumped into the ocean xP.

Yaaaassss, I did scuba diving at Pondichery and now I am a certified scuba diver which means I can dive up to 18 metres down the ocean without any guidance. Trust me, I had one of my best experiences down in the Bay of Bengal. It was so a surreal moment and so serene and wow, there was a whole lot of new unexplored world down the ocean. So yeah, I have a new set of friends now in the sea. Check them out below :P

I, also, wanted to share one incident that happened during the dive. I saw a dad and his 14-year-old daughter who was diving with me. The daughter was reluctant to jump in the ocean and felt so sick, but her dad kept pushing her constantly and at one point she got really mad at her dad for forcing her. After the trial dive, she didn't want to go deep. So, I went and tried to convince her of what she will be missing and how great her dad was because my parents didn't give me such opportunities to explore the world. Of course, I am not blaming. They had their own financial problems.

So yeah, scuba diving is one of the coolest things that I did in 2022. Hopefully, much crazier stuff in 2023. Fingers crossed! šŸ¤ž

ā€œI still believe in Paradise but now at least I know its not some place you can look for because its not where you go its how you feel for a moment in your life when you are a part of something and if you find that moment it lasts forever.ā€
